ILT20 2023: Tom Banton thrilled to regroup with former BBL teammate Chris Lynn at Gulf Giants
Banton played alongside Lynn for the Brisbane Heat in BBL 2019-20.
England wicketkeeper-batter Tom Banton has expressed his excitement on once again sharing the dressing room with his former Big Bash League (BBL) teammate Chris Lynn, as they are set to play in the upcoming ILT20. The duo donned the Brisbane Heat outfit in BBL 2019-20 and have maintained a strong bond since then.
Interestingly, the duo stitched an impressive 90-run partnership in the same season against Sydney Thunder in a rain-curtailed contest. Meanwhile, ahead of the inaugural season of the ILT20, where they will represent the Gulf Giants, Banton expressed his delight to play alongside Lynn.
“Chris (Lynn) is one of the best players in this format of the game and to open with him would be an honour. I am excited about the partnership and hope we can get our team to a flying start every time we are at the crease,” Banton was quoted by theprint.com.
I am well aware of the conditions and the weather: Tom Banton
The swashbuckling right-hander opined that he is well versed with the conditions in the UAE, which could hand an edge to this side in the competition. He further added that he would help the youngsters on the side with his experience.
“I have spent a lot of time here so I am well aware of the conditions and the weather. The wickets are a bit different as compared to what we have back in England. I will definitely pass on my knowledge of playing here to the youngsters in the team and hopefully, that will help them and all of us to put on a good show in the Gulf Giants’ jersey,” Banton said.
The league commences on January 13 with Dubai Capitals and Abu Dhabi Knight Riders locking horns. Meanwhile, Gulf Giants will open their campaign on January 15 against the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
