'I'm enjoying my batting' - Rohit Sharma on cricketers suggesting him selfishness for longevity in game
"Yes. I'm enjoying my batting. But obviously, keeping the situation of the team in mind," said Rohit Sharma.
Rohit Sharma, captaining the Indian cricket team, stands on the cusp of securing a spot in the ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 semi-finals. A victory against Sri Lanka in Mumbai on Thursday would propel them to that coveted position. However, during the pre-match press conference on Wednesday, Rohit Sharma faced an intriguing query.
In his nonchalant manner, Sharma responded to the question about his selfless approach in the 2023 World Cup. Despite praise for his focus on team achievements over personal milestones, some former cricketers have suggested a touch of selfishness for longevity. Rohit, a bit dumbstruck at first, casually remarked that his current style works for him, reflecting his commitment to the team's success above all else.
"Yes. I'm enjoying my batting. But obviously, keeping the situation of the team in mind, it's not like I just have to go and spin the bat. I have to spin it well, play well, and keep the team in a good situation. This is my mindset," Sharma replied.

There’s no pressure of wickets as everything is 0-0 when I start: Rohit Sharma
The India opener has emerged as a standout performer for the Indian cricket team in the ongoing World Cup, amassing an impressive 334 runs across six matches at a remarkable average of 66.33. His strike rate of 119.16 sets him apart as the most effective among the team's specialist batters. Notably, he has displayed exceptional prowess during the Powerplay. Discussing his batting approach, he expressed,
"When I open, the scoreboard starts from zero. So as a batsman I have to think, I have to set the tone for the game. So, I have that advantage or you can call it a benefit that I am starting the batting and there is no pressure of wickets because everything is 0-0, so when you have to start like that, you can be fearless and you can play the way you want to play,” he concluded.
