I'm not interested in getting scanned or anything, we'll worry about that later: Mitchell Starc
On Day one of the fifth Test, Mitchell Starc picked four wickets and took his tally to 19 in Ashes 2023
Australian speedster Mitchell Starc was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors on the Day 1 of the fifth Test. Earlier, at the start of the play, Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bowl first in the last game of the Ashes 2023. England were bowled out for 283 on Day 1 after a brilliant spell by Starc. The left-arm pacer picked up four wickets, taking his tally to 19 in the series.
Interestingly, Starc was bowling with a shoulder injury, but before the game, the 33-year-old clarified that he would not sit down but rather play this match. It is pertinent to mention that Starc landed heavily on his shoulder on the second day of the fourth Test, but he continued to bowl in that game.
"I'm not interested in getting scanned or anything like that,we'll worry about that at the end of the week. Just a bit of discomfort there, something going on there in the AC [joint]. Nothing major and I'm still able to bowl and do what I need to do," Starc was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.
However, on the opening day, he was required to go off the field for extra tapping but soon came back and dismissed the well-settled and highest scorer Harry Brook for 85 (91) with a stunning 90 miles delivery. Surely, Starc's effort will be crucial for the Pat Cummins-led side to win the series.
The pacer was phenomenal with the ball on Day 1 of the fifth Test at The Oval. He dismissed Harry Brook, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes and Stuart Broad to become the leading wicket-taker for his side. Speaking of the Ashes 2023, the Ben Stokes-led side will be looking to draw the series after falling behind 1-2 in the five-Test contest. At the end of Day 1's play, Australia were 61/1 with Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne on the crease.
