Australian cricketer Mitchell Marsh hopes to regain fitness before the ODI series against India in March 2022. After the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Australia will be playing a three-match ODI series as well.

Notably, Marsh has been out of action since November last year. He last played for the national team in the ODI series against England at home. Marsh injured his ankle during Australia's disappointing T20 World Cup campaign in 2022 and had to undergo surgery as well.

"First running session today. Felt really nice to get back to that. It was pretty easy but quite tough. I’ve got a bit of work to do. Hopefully (I’ll) be back playing in five or six weeks," the 31-year-old told 'Fox Cricket'.

"I’m looking forward to that. It’s the last domestic one dayer for us and then I’ll parachute in for another final which will be great," Marsh said.

Marsh's fellow teammate Glenn Maxwell also has a similar story to tell, only that his chances for the upcoming India series look much slimmer at the moment. Notably, Maxwell picked a leg injury and had to undergo surgery and has been recovering since. The 34-year-old said that he is assessing his progress week by week and it seems unlikely he will return for the Melbourne Stars before the end of the Big Bash.

“We’ve got the Test tour of India coming up and I was super motivated to get myself ready for that. Whether or not I’m on that, only time will tell. But I’ve done everything in my power to try and get ready for it and get myself back playing. There’s still a fair way to go,” said Maxwell.

Australia will begin their tour of India with the Test series, which starts in Nagpur from February 9. The subsequent ODI series will start in Mumbai on March 17. The next two games will be played in Visakhapatnam and Chennai on March 19 and 22 respectively.
