IPL 2024: 3 changes Delhi Capitals should make to get back to winning ways
Here are the three changes Delhi Capitals should look at for the next game against Gujarat Titans at home
After the highs of winning against Gujarat Titans, Delhi Capitals were brought back to reality by a marauding Sunrisers Hyderabad side. The margin of loss was 67 runs and this meant that DC now move to 7th on the IPL 2024 points table enabling MI to climb up to sixth.
It was a day to forget for Rishabh Pant and his side as they saw the SRH batters cause mayhem once again. 266 runs from 20 overs meant that the Hyderabadi side has now posted a score in excess of 250 thrice in this IPL.
Barring Jake Fraser-McGurk none of the Delhi batters were able to put up a fight. Rishabh Pant couldn’t get going with the bat as the required rate kept climbing. In the end it was the SRH team who held their ground and took home two crucial points for their team.
Here are the three changes DC should make to return to winning ways vs Gujarat Titans:
3. Promote Axar Patel to bat ahead
There is no doubt that Axar Patel is a genuine match winner with the bat and also with the ball. The 30-year-old has the ability to clear the fields and play the role of the finisher as well.
Delhi Capitals seem to wasting him lower down the order and by the time the left-hander comes out to bat it is too little and too late. If Delhi Capitals have to win their next few games, it is imperative that they push Axar higher up the order and let him become the enforcer with the bat in hand.
2. Need to give the middle-order more muscle
DC are one of the few sides that doesn’t possess a genuine finisher. In the game against SRH, it was evident as soon as they lost Tristan Stubbs the runs began to dry out. Rishabh Pant needs some support in the middle, and this could come from within.
Yash Dhull who is being wasted on the bench could be asked to bat as a finisher as he has the game to hit the big shots. The right-handed batter has an impressive record in the white ball format for New Delhi. The other option can be young Kumar Kushagra, who has the ability to score big runs and also clear the field.
1. Drop David Warner and draft in Lizaad Williams
After a good start to IPL 2024, the performance of David Warner has taken a beating. Jake Fraser-McGurk needs to bat up the order in order to give the Capitals a flying start. The southpaw could score only one run in a key game against his former side on Saturday.
One of the biggest problems for Delhi this year has been their death bowling. Lizaad Williams was signed as the replacement player, and the South African is a reputed death overs specialist. Having someone like Williams has the experience of bowling at the fag end, can help DC stem the flow of runs to minimize the opposition total.
