With Mohammed Shami being ruled out of the tournament because of a long-term injury, Gujarat Titans had to find a good quality pacer. They wanted to go all-in for Mitchell Starc but backed out after giving a good fight to KKR. The franchise ultimately splashed the cash on another Australian pacer, Spencer Johnson for INR 10 Crores. But it turned out to be a poor purchase as the pacer got hit for runs all over the park and surely could not live up to the price tag. He managed to scalp only four wickets across the five games he played in the tournament at a poor economy of 9.44.
