Day 2 of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 was quite a forgettable one for team India. After Australia posted a total of 474 runs in the first innings, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul departed early in the top order. It all came down to Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli to post a big total on the board.

Jaiswal amassed 82 runs on the board with Virat Kohli scoring 36 runs. Jaiswal started to close in on his ton when due to a miscommunication between both players, Jaiswal had to miss out on a well deserved century. Many came forward and blamed Kohli for Jaiswal’s wicket.

Talking about the same, veteran Australia spinner Nathan Lyon took a jibe at the pair.

“It was probably one of the best barbecues I’ve seen, to be honest with you. It came out of the blue. They were doing it pretty easy out there… pressure does funny things. Silly run-outs are coach killers, aren’t they? It was pretty special,” Lyon was quoted as saying by The Roar.

Kohli hadn’t moved – and I think it’s the young man’s fault as well: Ponting

Furthermore, former Australia cricketer Ricky Ponting also came forward and gave his take on the run out situation. He opined that it was Jaiswal’s fault as well, as Kohli had not moved when he started to take a run.

“Kohli hadn’t moved – and I think it’s the young man’s fault as well. He hit that way too firmly, and Cummins does move well in the field. It was just to his [Cummins’] left… clean pick-up, but at that stage, Jaiswal was well and truly committed,” Ponting told Channel 7.

It is worth noting that Day 2 of the fourth Test ended with India on a score of 164/5 with the side trailing by 310 runs.
