Jofra Archer will go straight into the Ashes off the back of IPL: Paul Farbrace
Archer played 13 Test matches, picking up 42 wickets in the process.
Paul Farbrace has confirmed that the ace pacer Jofra Archer will go straight to play in the Ashes upon completion of the Indian Premier League 2023. Notably, after missing out last season due to injury, the England international is finally ready to make his Mumbai Indians debut and will also play a major role since Jasprit Bumrah is unavailable this season.
Meanwhile, Farbrace also stated that the plan for Jofra is to bowl longer spells in the nets to get match-fit for the forthcoming Ashes, which is slated to begin on June 16.
“I think all things being equal; he will go straight into the Ashes off the back of the IPL. The England plan for Jofra is he'll go and play in the IPL. I think their plan is that between IPL games, he'll then bowl some longer spells to get his overs up and make sure that he is match-ready,” Farbrace was quoted as saying by India Today.
“England are not daft. They know that keeping the likes of Jofra fit for the Ashes will be really important to win the Ashes. I know there'll be a lot of people saying 'he should play at least two four-day games to be ready for a Test match', but the preparation and the work that the medical teams do around these players is exceptional,” the 55-year-old added.
Notably, after losing 4-0 in the last edition of the marquee clash, England are desperate to win back the Ashes this English summer. They played some sensational cricket under new leader Ben Stokes in 2022 and would only hope to continue in a similar fashion.
Meanwhile, Australian batters can also give them a tough time in the middle and hence England need Jofra Archer to be fit, as the speedster has the ability to change the complexion of the game. Notably, in 13 Test matches he has played so far in his career, the 28-year-old has picked up 42 wickets at an average of 31.04.
