NASA Space Centre set to player draft of USA's MLC on March 19

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) will be exploring a new field as America's space research organisation has decided to host the draft of the inaugural edition of the Major League Cricket (MLC) which will be unveiled on March 19, 2023.

Cricket as a sport was initially not very popular in the United States. However, the popularity has increased in recent times so much so that USA Cricket has taken to organising some very professional and competitive cricket tournaments to promote the world's second-most popular sport.

MLC to invlove six teams in inaugural year

As many as six teams are set to compete in the inaugural season of Major League Cricket this summer. Space Center Houston, located at the NASA Johnson Space Center, will host the league’s first-ever draft with teams representing Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington D.C will gather to form their squads. Every squad will have 18 players, with a maximum of seven internationals allowed on each roster.

MLC, which is exclusively sanctioned by USA Cricket, represents the most ambitious and transformational venture ever undertaken in the American cricket landscape. Focused on staging world class Twenty20 cricket for American cricket fans, MLC will feature top players from around the globe and provide a stage for domestic cricketers to showcase their talents to a global audience. MLC'S inaugural season will take place from July 13-30, 2023, with six teams taking part representing Dallas, San Francisco, New York City, Seattle, Los Angeles and Washington D.C.

Justin Geale, Tournament Director, Major League Cricket, could hardly contain his excitement about the happenings and he went on to express how he was very much interested in seeing the USA getting involved in a sports which wasn't very popular until recent times. He stated that this was a move to promote and encourage all-round development of US sportspersons and also aid them in enhancing their sports knowledge.

"Major League Cricket will feature many of the best T20 players from around the world in its inaugural season playing alongside the strongest domestic talent in the United States. The MLC draft will set the teams in place for what will be a summer of thrilling T20 competition to be played at a level never before seen in the United States. We're excited to see the teams take flight following the draft event on March 19th at Space Center Houston." he said, as quoted by CricBuzz.
