I'm probably not going to play Ashes in my career, I'm ok with that: Adam Zampa

Adam Zampa is Australia’s go-to spinner in limited-overs cricket but the 32-year-old has never played a Test match in his career as Nathan Lyon has owned the spot in the last decade, while the likes of Mitchell Swepson, Todd Murphy and Matthew Kuhnemann have been considered as second spinner from time to time. Zampa, who has played a vital part in securing two world titles for Australia, has been an overthought and is nowhere in the scheme of things as far as red-ball cricket is concerned.

Despite that, Zampa stated that he still has the drive to play Test cricket even though he understands that it is difficult for him to get into the red-ball squad. For every Australian or English cricket, playing in the Ashes is arguably one of the greatest achievements and it is something yet to be accomplished for Zampa. Despite being a white-ball star, he failed to achieve similar success in red-ball cricket and understands that he might end up never playing the Ashes.

“Realistically, I'm probably not going to play in an Ashes in my career. I'm OK with that. We have lots of Test cricket and there's still a bit of drive to play that but, in terms of playing in England or playing in Australia against England, I don't think it's a possibility (for me),” Zampa was quoted as saying by Yahoo Sports.

The spinner also talked about the massive rivalry between the two giant cricketing nations, adding that beating England is always special. He expects Australia to win the upcoming five-match ODI series and go home with a trophy.

“I think rivalry in any sport gives depth to the games, you can see that with the Ashes. It's a little bit different to this series in particular, but rivalry is important and the one against England is always great. Winning and beating England is always a good feeling and there's another opportunity in the next five games to hopefully go home with a trophy,” he added.
