One player I am most excited to see playing for India after Sachin Tendulkar is Umran Malik: Sunil Gavaskar
Malik made his ODI debut against New Zealand in November 2022.
After missing out on the T20 World Cup, Umran Malik has made his return to the Indian team and delighted everyone with his sheer pace. So much so that the cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar has put out a massive statement stating that after Sachin Tendulkar, Umran Malik is the one he has been most excited to see representing India.
The 23-year-old made his ODI debut against New Zealand in the month of November. After initially not being part of the squad during the Bangladesh series, the speedster replaced Mohammed Shami, who got ruled out because of a shoulder injury.
He first broke into the national scene after a tremendous season with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In the 15th edition of the tournament, the Srinagar-born cricketer clinched 22 wickets from 14 matches and his raw pace has impressed one and all. Gavaskar, who was part of the broadcast team during the tournament, praised the speedster time and again and before the second ODI between Bangladesh and India, the former cricketer showered the ultimate praise on the cricketer.
“One player I am most excited to see playing for India after Sachin Tendulkar is Umran Malik,” said Gavaskar on Sony Liv.
Umran bamboozles Najmul Shanto with brute pace
Soon after Sunil Gavaskar’s comments on the cricketer, Umran showed his calibre as he bowled an impeccable delivery to Najmul Shanto. Bowling at 151 kmph, the speedster completely bamboozled Shanto as the latter got undone by sheer pace.
The 23-year-old replaced Kuldeep Sen in the playing XI after Sen was ruled out of the game due to a stiff back. BCCI issued a statement saying that the player is currently being assessed by the medical team and has been advised to take some rest.
“Kuldeep Sen complained of back stiffness following the first ODI against Bangladesh on Sunday. The BCCI Medical Team assessed him and has advised him rest. He was not available for selection for the 2nd ODI,” BCCI said in an official statement.
