The return fixture between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Indian Premier League 2023 got underway at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Thursday, April 27. RR captain Sanju Samson won the toss and opted to bat first. The young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal once again starred with his power-hitting as RR set a 203-run target for the visitors.

Popularly referred to as 'captain cool', CSK's celebrated skipper MS Dhoni seldom loses his cool. However, one such rare incident occurred during Rajasthan's batting in the first innings. The RR openers provided a solid start for the home side, as RR wrapped up their batting powerplay with a total of 64/0. Building on the rigid foundation, as the home team progressed with their fine run, the former Indian skipper could be seen losing his cool and reacting angrily following the poor show on the field by CSK fielders.

Yashasvi Jaiswal powers RR to get past 200-run mark in first innings

Coming back to the match, Jaiswal scored a fiery half-century after producing a 50-run partnership with opening partner Jos Buttler. The 21-year-old batter took just 26 balls to notch up his half-century, which is his third in the ongoing season. He smashed 77 runs off 43 balls to guide RR to post 202 in 20 overs, before being dismissed by Tushar Deshpande. His knock was studded with eight boundaries and four sixes.

Earlier in the fourth over of RR's innings, Jaiswal had survived a DRS call from the CSK captain. The batter missed a ball while attempting to sweep a delivery which, however, ended up having contact with his pads. Meanwhile, Dhoni requested the umpire to review it which revealed it to have been pitched outside the leg stump.

Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja gave CSK the first breakthrough by dismissing Buttler in the ninth over. But it was Deshpande's exploits in the 14th over that halted RR's juggernaut, as the 27-year-old struck twice to dismiss well-set Jaiswal and skipper Sanju Samson. Maheesh Theekshana then dismissed Shimron Hetmyer in the first ball of the seventh over to further hinder RR's expectations of a much higher total than what they actually scored.

Dhruv Jurel (34 off 15) kept the strike in the penultimate over bowled by Matheesha Pathirana and scored a six and a four apiece. However, Jurel's outstanding display was cut short by an exceptional throw by MS Dhoni from behind the stumps as RR eventually finished their stint on 202/5.
