Joburg Super Kings and South Africa's left-arm off-spinner Aaron Phangiso has been banned from bowling in the ongoing SA20 after the Independent Bowling Action Panel verified that his action does not abide by the regulations of a legal bowling action as defined by the apex cricketing body - International Cricket Council (ICC).

Phangiso was earlier reported by the match officials in JSG's match against Pretoria Capitals on Tuesday, January 17. The independent panel submitted its report on Monday, January 23 which confirmed that the left-arm slow orthodox bowler operated with a non-compliant action at the Wanderers against Pretoria Capitals. The Independent Bowling Action Panel that gave the judgement comprised of former South Africa pacer Vernon Philander, Zama Ndamane, and Vincent Barnes.

The left-armer won't be seen bowling in the ongoing South African T20 extravaganza as far as the remaining games in this season are concerned. Meanwhile, his franchise Joburg Super Kings have requested to have his action tested in laboratory conditions at an ICC Accredited Centre. If the ICC Accredited Centre finds Phangiso's bowling action legal, then the Ga-Rankuwa-born will be allowed to bowl again.

Joburg Super Kings continue winning momentum

Meanwhile, Joburg Super Kings picked it up from where they had left against Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the last game and bagged a convincing nine-wicket victory against Durban's Super Giants on Tuesday, January 24 at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.

Skipper Faf du Plessis led Super Kings from the front, as he scored a captivating ton and added a 157-run partnership for the opening wicket with fellow opener Reeza Hendricks. While Faf took the Super Giants bowling attack to the cleaners, Hendricks was more sedate in his approach and scored 45 runs off 46 balls, including four fours and two sixes. Coming to the bowling front, pair of Gerald Coetzee and Maheesh Theekshana bagged three wickets each for the Super Kings to limit Super Giants to 178/6 in the first innings.
