Sanju Samson is good enough to play and they are leaving him out: Simon Doull
Samson played only one ODI against New Zealand during India's recent tour to the country and scored 36 off 38 deliveries.
Sanju Samson has been the most talked about cricketer in the Indian circuit since he was overlooked and didn't make it to India's T20 World Cup 2022 squad.
Even though the Kerala-born cricketer was selected for the T20I and ODI series against New Zealand recently, to everyone's surprise, got dropped from the Bangladesh series (ODI) without getting sufficient opportunities to cement his place.
The Indian management have instead picked Ishan Kishan and Rajat Patidar, who were not part of the ODI squad against the Kiwis.
Cricketer turned Commentator Simon Doull is baffled by the decision and questioned the Indian management behind their motive. The 53-year-old believes that the Men in Blue should first provide enough opportunities to Samson before trying other cricketers.
“Sanju Samson is good enough to play and they are leaving him out. Why are they taking Rajat Patidar?” Doull said on Cricbuzz.
Patidar, who has a good record for Madhya Pradesh in the domestic circuit was first called up for the ODI series against South Africa in October. However, the 29-year-old didn’t get an opportunity in the playing XI but has regained his position for Bangladesh's ODI leg of the tour even with all the big boys returning.
Mohammed Shami ruled out of the ODI series against Bangladesh
Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the ODI series against Bangladesh following a shoulder injury. The 32-year-old could miss the two-match Test series as well if fails to recover on time. Meanwhile, ace pacer Umran Malik has been called up to replace Shami in the ODI squad.
As per BCCI, Shami is ‘currently under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team at the NCA, Bengaluru’. Along with Shami, Ravindra Jadeja too will miss the ODI series after not being able to recover on time. Shahbaz Ahmed has been announced as Jadeja's replacement for the ODI series. Jadeja is also likely to be replaced by Saurabh Kumar for the two-match Test series.
