Suryakumar Yadav’s intent and approach is what makes him different from others: Vijay Dahiya
The flamboyant Indian batter scored 68* off 26 deliveries against Hong Kong to help India post 192.
Suryakumar Yadav demolished Hong Kong bowlers in Dubai on August 31 in the Asia Cup fixture. When all the Indian batters were struggling to time the ball, Suryakumar showed no mercy to any of the bowlers and scored 68* of 26 deliveries with six fours and six sixes to register the highest individual score in this year’s Asia Cup.
Former India cricketer Vijay Dahiya gave a different aspect to Suryakumar’s innings and said how his intent and approach is different from all the other players.
“I think the word intent is also important to use. I think his approach (towards the game) is what makes him different from everyone else. You’ll see that no matter where he plays or at which number he comes to bat, his approach towards the game is different. The entire team hit 9 boundaries while Surya himself hit 12. So, it’s because of his batting India could post 192 in the match,” said Dahiya on BatBricks7 Presents Run Ki Runneeti show on CricTracker.
Suryakumar Yadav will help the top three to take time and return in form: Vijay Dahiya
The 49-year-old also said that Suryakumar’s approach towards the game is helping India's top three batters to take time and settle down in the middle. Againat Hong Kong, KL Rahul did score 36 but his strike-rate was just 92.31. On the other hand, Virat Kohli looked much more settled as he scored 59* off 44. Before the Super 4, Dahiya believes that these runs will give Kohli some much-needed confidence.
“Suryakumar Yadav will help the top three to settle down and come back in form. They (top three) spent some time in the middle, scored some runs. Now, it doesn’t matter which opponent they scored against. Until and unless they score some runs, they will lack confidence. So, the top three spent some time in the middle (against Hong Kong) as Virat scored some runs, KL Rahul also got some runs. The team didn’t start very well but the team scored 57 runs in the last 5. That’s the kind of talent that this team possesses,” Dahiya added.
