TNPL 2023 auction: Day 1 Final squad of all teams and Where to Watch
During the last six seasons, a draft method was used to pick players.
The eagerly anticipated auction of the seventh edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) was held on Thursday, February 23 at the Plush Hotel in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu. All eight franchises came well-prepared ahead of the mega event to build a strong squad for their respective sides.
For the last six seasons, a draft method was used to pick players. However, ahead of this year’s edition, the TNPL governing council decided to conduct the auction which will be held over two days.
Ahead of the mega event, the teams were allowed to retain a maximum of two players. Players have been classified into four different groups for the auction on the basis of their base price.
Price division
Category A – INR 10 lakhs for Category A (players who have played international matches)
Category B – INR 6 lakhs for Category B (players who have played senior BCCI domestic matches)
Category C – INR 3 lakhs for Category C (players who are not in Category A or B but who have played more than 30 TNPL matches)
Category D – INR 1.50 lakhs for Category D (other players)
Teams were allowed to retain a maximum of two players (one in category A or B, other in Category C or D). The maximum purse amount was set at INR 70 lakh for all the franchises during the auction.
A total of 942 players will be going under the hammer across two days. Each team can have a minimum of 16 players and a maximum of 20 in their squad. Tamil Nadu batter Sai Sudharsan turned out to be the most expensive player on Day 1 as he was sold for INR 21.60 lakh to Lyca Kovai Kings.
