'Try and avoid David Warner's spot' - Marnus Labuschagne shares hilarious inside story from Australian dressing room
During the four-match Test series between India and Australia, the top-ranked batter in the world will try to reclaim his brilliant batting form.
Amid the humdrum of the preparations for the upcoming Australia’s tour of India, the World number 1 test batsman and prominent number 3, Marnus Labuschagne spilled the beans on a hilarious story inside the changing room. Notably, he topped the scoring charts for Australia during the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Test series.
During an interview with the Grade Cricketer podcast, Labuschagne revealed about the lesser known side of his fellow Aussie and opener, David Warner. In the same vein, he gave a stern warning, albeit, on a lighter note to the young Aussie players to refrain from occupying his seat inside the dressing room.
Citing the example of the budding Australian all-rounder, Cameron Green, Labuschagne said that when Green tried to take Warner’s spot by keeping his cricketing gears and kit, Warner took no time in throwing them away while the former was not around for a while. Moreover, the Aussie opener didn’t show any remorse for his act.
The world number 1 batter recalled the incident and said, "Try and avoid David Warner's spot. I have seen about three people who have tried to sit on his spot and I have seen him have zero care. The bags, the equipments get launched. Cameron Green tried to sit there the other day and put his bag there. When Cameron Green came back, his bag was 10 meters that way (on the other side), upside down. He just sent it, bang, see ya mate."
'When you get out, I'll follow you in the change rooms’- Labuschagne trolls Smith
One of the modern Aussie batting great, Marnus Labuschagne didn’t shy away from taking a dig at Australia’s mainstay, Steven Smith. When asked about which batsman’s reaction is the funniest after giving away his wicket, he couldn’t hold himself back from naming “Smudge.”
Labuschagne concluded by saying, "Steve Smith. I have said this to him openly 'when you get out, I'll follow you in the change rooms.' Verbal abuse at himself (way of dealing with getting out), it is quite funny."
Speaking of recent series performances back at home, the Aussie has not been able to replicate his sublime run. In the last 3 tests against South Africa, he managed to score only one half-century. Labuschagne averaged 36.33 with his best score of 79. Also, his strike rate was just 48.23 which remained a concern for a batsman of an elite class.
It will be interesting to see if Marnus Labuschagne will be able to bounce back through his batting blitzkrieg in a bid to strengthen Australia’s WTC final spot claim. While Team India will aim to continue their dominating momentum and inch closer to book their berth for the WTC final. The Border-Gavaskar trophy is scheduled to begin from February 9 in Nagpur.
