Team India managed to make it to the summit clash of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 after defeating Pakistan and Sri Lanka in back-to-back matches in a thrilling fashion. Notably, the side put in brilliant performances across the two matches that enabled them to make their way to the Asia Cup final. However, it can be said that the batting performance of India against Sri Lanka lacked several elements. The side only managed to post a subpar total of 213 runs in the first innings, with many batters failing to go big.

Among those many batters, Ishan Kishan came under the radar as well. Notably, Kishan scored 33 runs in 61 deliveries and played a plethora of dot balls, which came under the radar of the former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra. Talking of the same, Chopra opined that Kishan was sent up the order to bat against Dunith Wellalage, but he did play too many dot balls and did not look to push the ball into gaps.

"Ishan Kishan did not get out to Dunith Wellalage. He was batting alright, although one thing is going to go against Ishan Kishan. He was sent at No. 4, made to bat slightly up the order, as the left-arm spinner was bowling well, which makes a lot of sense, Aakash Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel.

Irfan Pathan was also talking on commentary that he is unable to take many singles: Aakash Chopra

Furthermore, Aakash Chopra also brought to light the expert observations of the former Indian pacer Irfan Pathan, while he was on air during the Super Four game between India and Sri Lanka. He emphasized the fact that India were batting first and the southpaw got the chance to bat within the first 20 overs of the game even though conditions were a little tricky for the new batters occupying the crease. Despite that, he failed to rotate strikes on a consistent basis and did not play freely enough as well.

"Irfan Pathan was also talking about it on commentary that he is unable to take that many singles. He was playing too many dot balls, and this was when you got to bat in the first 20 overs, although the pitch was slightly slow," he added.

In his 33-run knock, Kishan scored one six and one four and only scored 23 runs off the other 59 deliveries. Despite a brilliant performance against Pakistan in the group stage of the Asia Cup, Kishan failed to capitalise like most of the batters against Sri Lanka. However, despite a lacklustre total of 213 runs in the first innings, India successfully defended the total and registered a 41-run victory.
