The thrilling women's T20 cricket fest is in its full swing and has been entertaining cricket fans for quite some time now. After five games, the caravan moved to Match 6 of the ongoing Women's Premier League (WPL 2025), where franchise UP Warriorz (UP-W) clashed with Delhi Capitals (DC-W). Notably, the game was hosted on Wednesday, February 19, at the Kotambi Stadium, in Vadodara.

Talking Points from Match 5 of WPL 2025:

1. Kiran Navgire light up Vadodara with terrific fifty

After being invited by Meg Lanning to bat first, UP-W had a roller coaster kind of batting, Where on some occasions their batting was not as good as they would have liked, there were some moments of brilliance as well during the game. The rising star Kiran Navgire turned heads with her majestic batting. She scored an impressive half-century (51 runs off 27 balls) while showcasing her impeccable shot selection. Her glittery knock was laced with three sixes and six fours, respectively. As a result, UP managed to post a respectable total of 166/7 in their 20-over quota.

2. Debutant Chinelle Henry gave final touches to UP's innings with blazing cameo

Apart from Navgire, Shweta Sehrawat played a handy knock (37 runs off 33 balls). But debutant Chinelle Henry stole the show through her explosive cameo, which set up the game for the UP Warriorz. The West Indian gave a final flourish to her team by scoring a quickfire 33 runs off just 15 balls. Hence despite a strong start, they lost the plot in the middle phases, before they finished with a decent total on the board.

3. Lanning led with bat from front as Delhi Capitals win last over thriller

In reply to the run chase, Delhi Capitals skipper Meg Lanning opened the innings with the explosive Indian batter, Shafali Varma. In her fiery fashion, Shafali played a quick knock (26 off 16 balls) to put up a 66-run stand, before getting dismissed by Deepti Sharma. However, this did not stop the legendary former world champion Australian Lanning from milking the runs (69 off 49 balls), holding one end of the crease in the run chase, before getting cleaned up by Grace Harris.

After Shafali, Jemimah Rodrigues too perished soon without troubling the scorers. But all rounders Annabel Sutherland (41* runs off 35 balls) and Marizanne Kapp (29 runs off 17 balls) stitched an unbeaten 58-run stand for the fourth wicket to seal the match for Delhi Capitals Women in a last-over thriller. Sutherland also claimed two wickets while bowling, As a result, she was adjudged as the Player of the Match (POTM). Meanwhile here's what the captains and POTM had to say.

Who Said What?

Losing skipper, Deepti Sharma

"We lost back-to-back wickets, otherwise the total could have been different. We trusted ourselves as bowling unit. We pulled it back after the powerplay. Only if we'd taken the catches; it's part of the game, though. The result could have been different [had we taken them]. The team is doing well. Even today, 166 was a good total. We want to play good cricket as a team."

Winning skipper, Meg Lanning

"Happy to be on the right side. Much better out there tonight. I felt I was positive from the first ball. Got my footwork going. We had some world-class players out there [in the closing stages of the chase]. I thought we were on for 200 after the first six overs! We pulled it back really nicely. Taking wickets is really important. There's always areas to improve, but I feel this was our best performance of the tournament so far."

Player of the Match, Annabel Sutherland

"Nice to get a win, and contribute. We did well to pull back in the bowling innings. Just reading the conditions... trying to use the longer boundary. Meg was going pretty well, then Kappy came in and was hitting the ball pretty well. I just try to find out what's working as early as possible. It's tough for bowlers at times. Sometimes it's your day, sometimes it's not."
