WTC final should be at least a three-game series: David Warner

"You play two years of good cricket, then you play on a neutral venue against an opposition. We've all played here before but [this game is] not against the same [host] nation,” Warner said.

Ahead of the eagerly-anticipated World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 Final, Australia batter David Warner opined on having a three-match series instead of a one-off Test to decide the ultimate Test champion.

Notably, the two fierce rivals Australia and India will cross swords at the Oval in London from June 7 for the coveted mace. The Aussie southpaw further acknowledged what team India will bring to the table and that the clash would be exciting with world-class bowling attacks up against each other in the crucial Test.

"I think it's great. I have been - I won't say critical - but I do think it should be at least a three-game series with Test cricket only. You play two years of good cricket, then you play on a neutral venue against an opposition. We've all played here before but [this game is] not against the same [host] nation,” Warner was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

"It's a great reward for the two best teams. Two world-class bowling attacks bowling with a Dukes ball on foreign land. It's great and we're excited for that. We've played some outstanding cricket over the last 18-24 months. We know what India will bring to the table. It's a great neutral venue, two world-class bowling attacks with a Dukes ball and from a batter's perspective, I can't wait to get out there,” he added.

Australia will be featuring in their first summit clash of the WTC and will be raring to get hands on their first title after failing in the inaugural cycle in 2019-21. Meanwhile, last edition's runners-up, India, will also want to end their ICC trophy drought with a title.

The Aussies have begun preparations in full swing as they have their priorities set straight with their first focus on clinching the prestigious mace. Following the conclusion of the WTC Final, team Australia will turn their attention towards retaining the Ashes against arch-rivals England.
