‘My father killed a Tiger’ - Yuvraj Singh's father Yograj shares riveting story from his childhood days
"First of all, the fear of death should end. When I was three years old, my dad told my mom that we were going on a tiger hunt," Yograj Singh said.
Yuvraj Singh’s father, Yograj Singh, was a player with great potential during his playing days. However, he was unable to make it big on the international days. Representing India, Yograj Singh played one Test and six ODIs for India. However, it was as a coach that he found his footing, as he trained Yuvraj Singh to be a world champion.
Furthermore, Sachin Tendulkar’s son, Arjun, also trained under him. Recently, Yograj Singh gave an interview, where he shared a childhood story of him and his father and the time that they went hunting for a tiger. Yograj Singh was asked about what kind of mindset is needed to join his academy, which was when he shared the story. Yograj Singh revealed that the fear of death should be removed from a new joiner.
"First of all, the fear of death should end. When I was three years old, my dad told my mom that we were going on a tiger hunt. My father was carrying a rifle, and it was a moonlit night. We were sitting on a machaan (elevated platform). And then the tiger came, the kid was about to shout but my mom held his mouth. Then my dad shot the tiger from six feet. Shot dead in the head. He fell like a mountain," Yograj Singh said in an interview with Switch.
"The kid was speechless. My father told my mom to take me down. He then held me and said, "sher ka baccha ghaas nahi khaata (a tiger cub doesn't eat grass). That voice went like an echo. He made me sit on the tiger and smeared its blood on my lips and forehead. I still have that photo in my home,” he concluded.
