Proteas played the opener of the Super Eights stage against co-hosts USA and clinched a crucial victory. After being asked to bat first, South African batters managed to post a competitive total of 194 runs, all thanks to a brilliant innings from Quinton de Kock. The dark horse of the tournament tried their level best to chase down the target but eventually fell short by 18 runs.
