New Delhi, 25th August 2024: South Delhi Superstarz beat West Delhi Lions by 69 runs here at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi, in the ongoing Delhi Premier League T20 on Sunday.

Chasing the target of 229, West Delhi Lions opened the innings with Ankit Kumar and Krish Yadav. The openers got off to a flying start as they took on the opposition bowling from the first ball. Ankit Kumar accelerated the innings with some fine shots. West Delhi Lions reached 50/0 in just 2.5 overs.

South Delhi Superstarz got their first breakthrough as Kuldip Yadav dismissed Krish Yadav for 28 runs off 13 balls. Just before the end of the powerplay, Kuldip Yadav struck again as he dismissed Yugal Saini for 5 runs. West Delhi Lions were 82/2 after six overs.

However, three quick wickets put the West Delhi Lions on the backfoot as the team was struggling at 88/5 in 7.6 overs. Deepak Punia and Aryan Dalal then put up a 35-run partnership off 25 balls for the sixth wicket. Deepak’s innings came to end as he was dismissed by Shubham Dubey for 15 runs. At the other end, Aryan kept the scoreboard ticking. However, Aryan’s blistering innings of 32 runs came to an end as he was sent back to the pavilion by Ayush Badoni.

With wickets falling regularly, it became difficult for West Delhi Lions to keep up with the required run rate. South Delhi Superstarz bowled out the West Delhi Lions for 159 runs.

In the contest, West Delhi Lions won the toss and elected to have a bowl first. For Srouth Delhi Superstarz, Priyansh Arya and Sarthak Ray opened the innings. The openers got off to a perfect start as the duo came out all guns blazing. Priyansh Arya continued his fine form and Sarthak Ray well supported him. However, West Delhi Lions got their first breakthrough as Deepak Punia dismissed Sarthak Ray for 22 runs off 16 balls. His innings included three boundaries and one six.

At the end of the powerplay, South Delhi Superstarz were 61/1. The in-form and South Delhi Superstarz Captain Ayush Badoni was next to take the crease. He along with Priyansh contributed with a 49-run partnership off 25 balls which took the total to 100/1 in just 8.1 overs. Just before the first time-out, Shivank Vashisht dismissed Priyansh Arya for 45 runs off 26 balls. His innings included five boundaries and two sixes.

Ayush then along with Dhruv Singh formed a quick 40-run partnership off 28 balls. Ayush reached his half-century in just 24 balls which included two boundaries and six sixes. However, his innings came to end as he was dismissed by Tishant Pawan Dabla for 57 runs off 28 balls. 

Dhruv Singh and Tejaswi Dahiya then started to accelerate the innings with some fine shots and finding the boundaries at regular intervals with ease. Towards the end of the innings, Tejaswi reached his half-century in 21 balls, which included three boundaries and five sixes. He was well supported by Dhruv Singh who contributed with 28 runs. Tejaswi was dismissed by Rohit Yadav for 57 runs. Vision Panchal made a quickfire 11 runs from 3 balls which included one boundary and a six.

South Delhi Superstarz posted a mammoth target of 228/4 from their allotted 20 overs. For West Delhi Lions, Deepak Punia, Shivank Vashisht, Tishant Pawan Dabla, and Rohit Yadav picked one wicket each.
