Women’s Asia Cup 2024, MAL-W vs THA-W Review: Thailand prevail in low-scoring clash against Malaysia
Thailand women defeated Malaysia women by 22 runs.
The Women’s Asia Cup 2024 continued with Malaysia Women and Thailand women facing off n the third game of the tournament at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Saturday, July 20.
The clash began with Thailand women coming in to bat first after winning the toss. The team got off to a subpar start as opener Nannaphat Chaihan was sent packing for a duck by Saubika Manivannan. Nattaya Boochatham scored just 18 before she was dismissed by Aisya Eleesa.
Nannapat Koncharoenkai stuck around for a while, scoring 40 off 35 while Phannita Maya (29 off 28), Suwanan Khiaoto (unbeaten 14 off 16) and Rosenan Kanoh (13 off 12) led Thailand to 133/6. As for Malaysia women, Mahirah Izzati Ismail was the highest wicket-taker with three wickets to her name while Suabika Manivannan, Aisya Eleesa, and Winifred Duraisingam took one wicket each.
As Malaysia got off to a good start in the chase as their openers Winifred Duraisingam (22 off 28) and Wan Julia (52 off 53) added 68 runs. While they loked to set for a successful run chase, Thailand's bowling strung a surprise as Malaysia suffered a dramatic collapse. Keeping aside the openers, no other batter could score in double digits as Elsa Hunter was dismissed for nine, Ainna Hamizah Hashim for six and Jamahidaya Intan for four while Ismail, Mannivan and Eleesa all were dismissed for ducks.
Onnicha Kamchomphu was the highest wicket-taker, scalping two wickets while Chanida Sutthiruang, Nattaya Boochatham, Thipatcha Putthawong, and Suleeporn Laomi took one wicket each to limit Malaysia to 111, winning the low-scoring game by 22 runs.
