Cricket South Africa announces ODI squad for Sri Lanka tour
The first match will be played on July 29 at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla.
The South African team is scheduled to play a Test, ODI and a T20I series versus Sri Lanka, which gets underway this July and will continue till the mid of August. The tour will start with a two-day practice match followed by the international matches. The Test team has already been declared earlier with the likes of Dale Steyn making their comeback.
Recently, Cricket South Africa has also announced the squad for the ODI series. The five-match ODI series begins from July 29 with Dambulla, Palekelle, and Colombo, being the venues for the encounters. The experienced Faf du Plessis has been given the mantle of captaincy. Hashim Amla and JP Duminy are the most experienced batsmen in the lineup.
A strong squad in place
As per Cricbuzz, they also have Quinton de Kock as the sole wicket-keeper. David Miller hasn’t been in the greatest of nicks for the Proteas and he would want to make amends. Aiden Markram has grown leaps and bounds ever since he made his debut and he will be expected to hit his straps under trying conditions. The bowling lineup also looks a formidable one.
Kagiso Rabada, Lungisani Ngidi are the spearheads in the fast-bowling department. The onus will be on Chinaman Tabraiz Shamsi and left-arm orthodox tweaker Keshav Maharaj to shoulder the spin bowling armory. Andile Phehlukwayo’s all-round abilities also need to come to the fore.
Wiaan Mulder played an ODI way back in 2017 and will be hoping to get a game. Heinrich Klaasen was stupendous in the India series and needs to bring his power hitting skills to the fore. Junior Dala and Reeza Hendricks are the ones who are yet to play a 50-over match for South Africa.
Here’s the full squad
