After losing their respective opening encounters with Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will face each other in Match 5 of Asia Cup 2022 on Thursday, September 01, 2022, at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai. Both teams were thumped by Afghanistan as they look to secure a victory in a virtual knock-out match that will take them into the next stage of Super 4. With two wins out of two, Afghanistan have already progressed into the next round from this group.

Talking about the two teams, Sri Lanka were humiliated by the Afghans as the Island nation got bundled out for just 105 in the opening fixture of the tournament. Fazalhaq Farooqi and the spinners were the wreckers in chief for Mohammad Nabi’s side as they sealed a convincing victory over Dasun Shanaka’s side by eight wickets. Against Bangladesh, the spin duo of Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan were the star performers as they both took six wickets for just 38 runs in between them in eight overs.

Najibullah Zadran then showcased his power-hitting to smash 43 unbeaten off just 17 which included six maximums to clinch a seven-wicket victory for his side and a place in Super 4. Both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will look to quickly forget their opening games and win this clash to avoid elimination. They last met in a T20 international in the T20 World Cup last year when the Lankan Lions sealed a five-wicket victory over the Bangla Tigers in Sharjah.
