Seamers Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan wreaked havoc with their five and four-wicket hauls respectively as India (IND) thrashed South Africa (SA) by a margin of eight wickets in the opening one-day international match at New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg. The second encounter is scheduled for Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at St. George’s Park, Gqeberha. The third and final game will be played on Thursday, the 21st at Boland Park in Paarl.

Speaking in detail about the series opener, the home side batted first in the Pink ODI and was completely blown away by the seam bowling of the above-mentioned duo. All-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo top-scored for his side with his knock of 33 off 49.

Spinner Kuldeep Yadav also bagged a solitary wicket as the hosts got bundled out cheaply for a mere 116 in 27.3 overs. In reply, Sai Sudharsan, who made his debut, played an unbeaten knock of 55 off 43 with the help of nine fours. Batting at No. 3, Shreyas Iyer struck 52 off 45 as team India comfortably chased down their target in just 16.4 overs with the loss of two wickets. For his solid spell, Arshdeep won the Player of the Match award. Aiden Markram and his men will look to bounce back and level the series by claiming a victory here.
