India vs South Africa, 2nd T20I Stats Review: David Miller’s feat, India's highest total against South Africa, and other stats
David Miller, with 2009 runs, is now the leading run-scorer for South Africa in T20Is.
David Miller’s breathtaking unbeaten century went in vain as South Africa lost the second match by 16 runs in Guwahati. Quinton de Kock remained not out on 69 off 48 in the pursuit of 237 but Indian bowlers, led by the solid spell of 0/24 by Deepak Chahar, held their nerves to seal the first bilateral series victory over the Proteas in India in four attempts.
Talking about how the run-fest panned out, skipper Temba Bavuma won the toss and opted to field first. KL Rahul struck his second fifty in as many games as he smashed 57 off just 28 while captain Rohit Sharma made 43 off 37. Virat Kohli scored 49 off 28 but it was Suryakumar Yadav who stole the show yet again with his scintillating knock of 61*, which came in just 22 deliveries and had five fours and as many maximums as India reached the total of 237/3 in 20 overs. Pacer Kagiso Rabada had a forgettable outing for the Proteas as he leaked 57 in his four-over spell for no wickets, while Wayne Parnell also conceded 0/54 as India registered the highest total by a team against the Proteas.
Chasing a mammoth target of 238, captain Bavuma bagged a seven-ball duck while Rilee Rossouw also failed to get off the mark. Aiden Markram struck 33 off 19 before falling prey to spinner Axar Patel. The Miller and de Kock show then began as they registered the highest partnership for any wicket against India in T20Is, surpassing Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan’s efforts of 152* in Dubai in 2021.
Miller brought up his second T20I century but it ended up in a losing cause and the target proved way too much for the Proteas as they got reduced to 221/3 in 20 overs. With this, India sealed the three-match series 2-0 and won their first series against South Africa on home soil. The visitors lost their first bilateral series in seven attempts in the format. For his quickfire fifty, KL Rahul grabbed the Player of the Match award.
