KKR vs CSK, Match 33 IPL 2023 Stats Review: CSK's highest total, Rahane's feat and other stats
An all-round show against KKR helps CSK get to the top of the points table in IPL 2023.
A clinical batting display followed by an all-round bowling display saw Chennai Super Kings defeat Kolkata Knight Riders by a margin of 49 runs in match number 33 of Indian Premier League 2023 at the historic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The host won the toss and opted to field first. CSK openers got off to a brisk start as the duo of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway added 73 runs in 7.3 overs. Suyash Sharma drew the first blood for KKR as Gaikwad departed for a well-made 35 runs off 20 balls. Ajinkya Rahane joined hands with Devon Conway as the duo added 36 more runs for the second wicket, with Conway registering his fourth consecutive fifty in IPL 2023, in the course of the partnership.
However, soon after his half-century, Conway got dismissed for 56, courtesy of brilliant bowling from Varun Chakravarthy. Soon, Shivam Dube joined Ajinkya Rahane as the duo toyed with the potent KKR bowlers smashing them round the ground for fours and sixes. Shivam Dube then registered his second fifty of the season which came off just 20 balls, only to get dismissed in the very next delivery.
However, Rahane kept on piling runs at a rapid rate, as he along with Ravindra Jadeja added 38 runs at a quick pace to help CSK post a massive total of 235/4 in 20 overs. Rahane amassed an unbeaten 29-ball 71 that included 11 boundaries. The total posted by CSK is the highest total at Eden Gardens as well against KKR in IPL.
Chasing 236, the ploy to open with Sunil Narine backfired for KKR as they lost both the openers inside two overs and were left reeling at 1/2 in 1.2 overs. Then, Nitish Rana partnered with Venkatesh Iyer as the duo kept the scoreboard ticking by adding 45 runs for the third wicket but Moeen Ali broke the partnership by trapping Iyer lbw.
Soon, Rana departed for 27 in the very next over to leave KKR in even more trouble at 70/4 in the ninth over. Jason Roy and Rinku Singh kept the chase alive by adding a fifty-run partnership in quick time, as Roy rose to his fifty in just 19 balls. Soon, Maheesh Theekshana cleaned up Roy for 61 runs. A cameo from Rinku Singh helped KKR only to reduce the margin of defeat, as CSK eventually emerged victorious by 49 runs. With this win, they have claimed to the top spot in the points table of the ongoing edition.
