A blistering 89* runs knock from Marcus Stoinis followed by a brilliant bowling display from Ravi Bishnoi and an equally splendid bowling display from Mohsin Khan helped Lucknow Super Giants edge past Mumbai Indians in Match number 63 of Indian Premier League 2023 at the Ekana Sports City Stadium, Lucknow.

The toss belonged to the visitors, as Rohit & Co decided to chase first. Deepak Hooda was promoted to open in the absence of Kyle Mayers, but the result was the same as he continued his poor run with the score of 5 from 7 balls. Jason Behrendorff not only removed Hooda, but also struck twice in two balls as Prerak Mankad departed for a golden duck.

Soon, Quinton de Kock fell to Piyush Chawla immediately after the powerplay for a 15-ball 16 runs, LSG were left reeling at 35/3. Skipper Krunal Pandya and Marcus Stoinis led the rescue with steady batting, as the duo added 82 runs for the fourth wicket. Krunal Pandya walked off after sustaining an injury in the 16th over after amassing 49 runs off 42 balls.

Marcus Stoinis then shifted gears in the batting department as he went berserk against the likes of the MI death bowling unit, smashing them all around the ground, scoring 54 runs in the last three overs. Stoinis rose to his seventh IPL half-century and remained unbeaten on 89 to help LSG post a good total of 177/3 in 20 overs. For MI, Jason Behrendorff picked two wickets and Piyush Chawla picked one wicket.

Chasing 178, MI openers got off to a flying start, as the duo of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan toyed with the LSG bowling unit, scoring 90 runs for the first wicket. Rohit Sharma smashed 37 runs off 25 balls before Ravi Bishnoi broke the opening stand, Ishan Kishan too got out soon after scoring a brisk 39 ball-59 that included nine boundaries.

In the 15th over impact player, Yash Thakur cleaned up Suryakumar Yadav, reducing MI from 90/0 to 115/3. LSG bowlers bowled tight overs to dismiss Nehal Wadhera and Vishnu Vinod with the scorecard reading 145/5 in the 18th over.  With 30 runs to get in 12 balls, Tim David went wild against Naveen-ul-Haq, smashing 19 runs in the 19th over to reduce the equation to 11 from six. Mohsin Khan held on to the nerves and defended beautifully to help LSG edge over MI for the third time by a margin of 5 runs.
