Opener Jason Roy played a blitz innings of 56 off 29 with the help of four fours and five maximums while skipper Nitish Rana struck 48 off just 21 as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) posted a massive total of 200/5 on the board eventually beating Royal challengers Bangalore (RCB) by a margin of 21 runs in Match 36 of IPL 2023 in Bangalore. With this, KKR finally returned to winning ways after losing their previous four encounters.

Speaking about how the match unfolded, Virat Kohli captained RCB again as he won the toss and elected to field first. Wicketkeeper-batter N Jagadeesan struggled with his knock of 27 off 29 while Venkatesh Iyer hit 31 off 26. Courtesy of the contribution from the top four batters, the visitors reached a huge total in their allotted 20 overs. Wanindu Hasaranga and Vijaykumar Vyshak picked up two wickets apiece for the home side.

In reply, Kohli’s red-hot form continued as he smashed 54 off 37. Faf du Plessis suffered a rare failure as he got dismissed for 17 off just seven. Glenn Maxwell and Shahbaz Ahmed departed for single-digit scores of five and two runs respectively. Mahipal Lomror struck some big hits as he racked up 34 runs which included four and three maximums. Dinesh Karthik made 22 but he failed to get his side over the line as the hosts got restricted to 179/8. Varun Chakaravarthy was the pick of the KKR bowlers for his spell of 3/27 (4). Andre Russell and spinner Suyash Sharma got two scalps each.

6 – Jason Roy and N Jagadeesan became the sixth opening pair in eight matches for KKR this season.

100 – Nitish Rana is now in the second position for reaching the milestone of 100 sixes for KKR in the IPL. Andre Russell tops the chart with 180 maximums.

83 – Roy and Jagadeesan recorded the highest opening stand of 83 for the Knight Riders in IPL 2023. Previously, Venkatesh Iyer and Rahmanullah Gurbaz shared 26 runs for the opening wicket against RCB in Kolkata.

5 – KKR scripted their fifth successive victory against RCB in IPL in Bangalore.

50 – Varun Chakaravarthy appeared in his 50th IPL match.

18.00 – Andre Russell has managed to score 108 runs in eight innings at an average of just 18.00 and with the best score of 38* this season.

39 – Dinesh Karthik has been involved in most run-outs (39) in the league. Rohit Sharma is in the second spot for being involved 37 times.

861 – Virat Kohli has now struck the third-most runs (861) against KKR in the league. He surpassed Shikhar Dhawan’s tally of 850 runs. David Warner and Rohit Sharma are in the top two positions for hitting 1075 and 1040 runs respectively.

3015 – Kohli reached the landmark of 3000 runs in 92 innings in all T20s at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
