Dale Steyn indulges in a light-hearted on-field exchange with AB de Villiers
It was Steyn, who eventually got rid of the in-form De Villiers.
Dale Steyn and AB de Villiers are among the greatest cricketers South Africa have ever produced. Even as the latter hung his boots from all forms of cricket back in 2018, Steyn has only bid goodbye to Test cricket. The duo is currently plying trade in the 2019-20 edition of the Mzansi Super League (MSL). Both have played crucial roles in their teams’ journey thus far in the T20 tournament.
The Spartans, for whom De Villiers is playing, have lost a solitary game, but are precariously placed third in the points table. On the other hand, Steyn’s Cape Town Blitz are in a worse position than the Spartans. The team, led by Quinton de Kock, are at the fourth spot with a couple of matches left for them to play. On Sunday, December 1, the Blitz and the Spartans faced off at the Newlands.
Dale Steyn and De Villiers were involved in a funny moment. It took place in the 14th over of the Spartans’ run-chase. The speedster churned out a full bunger and ABD tried to throw the kitchen sink at it. But the batsman couldn’t time the ball and hit it straight back to the bowler. De Villiers immediately put his hand up in apology after which Steyn decided to have some fun with him.
The paceman threw the stumps down, walking up to the batsman. Thereafter, Steyn raised his finger and De Villiers put the stumps back in place. The packed audience present at the venue in Cape Town, had a good laugh about the funny and light-hearted incident. Even the commentator narrated about the camaraderie, shared by the two popular figures of South African cricket.

The happy moment didn’t last long for De Villiers though. Four balls later, he gave a simple caught and bowled chance to Steyn, who picked up three wickets, giving away 10 runs in his four overs. ABD could manage only 31 runs off 26 balls with the help of a four and a couple of sixes. The Blitz went on to win the match by 15 runs and also halted the Spartan’s unbeaten streak in the MSL.
