David Hussey feels Duck-worth Lewis method needs an upgrade
T20 cricket and D/L needs an immediate upgrade: David Hussey
Former Australian middle-order batsman David Hussey stated that Duck-worth Lewis method and Twenty20 cricket do not go hand in hand and both need an upgrade instantaneously. He further mentioned that the statement was irrespective of the result of last night’s Indian Premier League match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
After the rain-curtailed Eliminator last night there were many voices about the need for change in the system and rules prevalent in the game. For a majority of the game, the Knight Riders owners and players had their heart in their mouth as they faced a probable knockout in the tournament due to the weather. As Sunrisers Hyderabad were above the Knight Riders in the points table, had the match been called off, David Warner’s side would have progressed into the second qualifiers.
As the rain stopped, KKR had to chase a meagre total of 48 runs in 42 balls with 10 wickets in hand. Gautam Gambhir chased down the total with ease as Warner and his men would have felt hard done. It is baffling to see all the good work in 14 matches and 560 overs, boiled down to just 6 overs where they could not defend an average total of 48 runs.
Gambhir lauds SRH
At the end of the day, it essentially took just one bad over of Siddharth Kaul to knock the defending champions out of the tournament in a heart-breaking fashion. Even Gambhir was aware of the agony the team would have had and expressed his concerns on twitter.
He tweeted by saying “Satisfying win but my heart goes out 2 @SunRisers, tough 2 fathom such a loss. U r a champion side @VVSLaxman281 @YUVSTRONG12 @davidwarner31”
It is not the first time a team was knocked out of the tournament in a heartbreak situation. The most popular of them is World Cup exit of South Africa in 1992 and 2003 at home. South Africans have faced the wrath of Duck-Worth Lewis the most in cricketing history.
As a result, David Hussey, who has been a chief analyst with Star Sports during the IPL, expressed on Twitter to highlight the reforms needed in the sport.
He tweeted saying, “T20 cricket and D/L needs an immediate upgrade. D/L is seriously out of date and that’s Irrespective of the #eliminator result.”
