DDCA receives clearance to host the World T20 semi-final
BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur has confirmed that the World T20 semi final scheduled on March 20th will not be moved out of the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground, Delhi. The news comes just few hours after the Delhi High Court had dismissed the plea to use the RP Mehra block for the ongoing World T20.
Previously, it was reported the BCCI hinted to DDCA that the semifinal could be shifted from Delhi to Bengaluru. This forced the state association to seek time till Wednesday afternoon.
“The DDCA’s executive members along with a top ICC official and ICC’s legal advisor have arranged a meeting with Justice Mudgal for Wednesday morning. They will try to convince Justice Mudgal to allow DDCA to use the disputed 2100 seats above the sight screen,” a top DDCA official stated Tuesday.
“We have come to know about the court’s decision. We are looking at options and working towards what can be done. As of now, we have not taken any decision on relocating the match,” a senior ICC official told TOI. “There is not much time to change the venues. The BCCI is getting edgy. However, the ball is in ICC’s court now,” the DDCA official said.
A bench of justices S Muralidhar and Vibhu Bakhru stated that necessary clearances for hosting the match would be subject to the compliances and the association and the DDCA should talk to ICC for a solution.
The bench told DDCA that it won’t direct the municipal corporation to issue completion certificates for hosting the match and said the cricketing body must get all necessary clearances including completion certificate for the old club house of Feroz shah Kotla ground.
At last, it seems that DDCA has sorted all its difficulties with the ICC and the match will take place as scheduled.
