India's new head coach will be selected by CAC and not Virat Kohli
The decision of India's new head coach is made and CAC will have the final say no matter what.
The coaching position of the Indian cricket team was fought upon by the selected contenders yesterday. The interviews of all the candidates were successfully taken by the Cricket Advisory Committee. The CAC committee was headed by Vinod Rai. There were five candidates in all.
Anil Kumble left the post as everyone was shocked after his resignation. However, the hunt for the new coach was on since then as India are currently without a coach. The search might be over as the CAC has come to a decision but are waiting for Virat Kohli to come back from his break. However, that doesn’t mean that they are going to consult him for the decision.
Virat’s opinion holds no value
When Ganguly said that the committee is waiting for Virat’s arrival as they want to brief him about the new coach, everyone misunderstood. The statement was clear as they were only going to brief him and not ask for his opinion.
The decision is made and CAC will have the final say no matter what. A BCCI official also cleared all the doubts as he talked to PTI after the interviews on Monday. He said, “Let’s get one thing straight. The final decision maker is the CAC and not Virat Kohli. When Sourav said that he will speak to Virat, he meant that once he is back from a break, he will be told what CAC feels about each candidate that they interviewed and why they are choosing a particular candidate.
“Virat’s opinion will not be sought. But as a captain, he needs to know the rationale behind the appointment. So he will be kept in the loop,” he added.
Moody and Pybus the most prepared candidates
According to a source close to NDTV, the most prepared candidates were Pybus and Moody as their presentations were excellent. They answered every question extremely well. There were two common questions, one concerned the world cup and the other was about delicate situations.
The source revealed, “Some of the presentations were excellent. Pybus and Moody, in particular, were really well prepared with answers for tough questions. Ravi and Viru also gave elaborate answers on some of the tricky issues. There were two basic questions that every candidate was asked.
“The first was their vision going into 2019 World Cup in England and secondly the role of a coach compared to the captain. They were asked how would they handle delicate situations as and when it arises,” the source said.
