Seeing the trend, MS Dhoni fans vent their frustration at the ones who started the trend.
India is set to lock horns with Bangladesh for a three-match Twenty20 International series which will be followed by a couple of Test matches in Indore and Kolkata. But apart from the on-field shenanigans of Indian cricket, it the off-field activities that have kept the fans hooked. Firstly, the induction of former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly as the BCCI chief and secondly about MS Dhoni’s future plans.
These are the questions that have kept the fans as well as his pundits and a few detractors on the edge of their seats. There is absolutely no denying the fact that the cricketing days of one of India’s greatest captains are numbered. The former Indian captain, Dhoni, last turned out for the Men in Blue during the semi-final of the 2019 Cricket World Cup in England and Wales earlier this year. Dhoni played a fighting knock, scoring a half-century, one that almost took India past the finishing line before he was miraculously run-out by New Zealand opener Martin Guptill.
India eventually lost the match and bowed out of the tournament and many believed that it was the last time they were seeing Dhoni in national colours. Post the World Cup, Dhoni made himself for the subsequent tour of the West Indies. Post the West Indies tour, speculations were rife that Dhoni would announce his retirement sooner rather than later but the mercurial wicketkeeper-batsman shocked everyone by extending his sabbatical from the game and making him unavailable for the subsequent home series against South Africa and Bangladesh.
#DhoniRetires trends on Twitter; MS Dhoni fans react
Chief Selector MSK Prasad while announcing the squad for the three-match Twenty20 International series against Bangladesh where his committee picked Sanju Samson as the backup wicketkeeper to the incumbent Rishabh Pant made it clear that they were moving on while also stating that Dhoni had the right to decide for himself when he should retire, a sentiment repeated by Head coach Ravi Shastri and the newly elected BCCI President, Sourav Ganguly, who made it clear in his first press-conference that till he is around, everyone will be respected.
Dhoni hasn’t uttered a single word on his future but on Monday (October 28), a few Twitter users started to trend #DhoniRetires on Twitter by stating that the wicketkeeper-batsman was retiring from the game. Seeing the trend, MS Dhoni fans vent their frustration at the ones who started the trend.
