Former Indian cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar’s position as a member of the National Cricket Academy is currently under the smoke and his future will only be decided when the BCCI holds its next Annual General Meeting. There has been rumors about the BCCI planning to appoint a full-time ‘Special Projects’ director soon. 61-year-old Vengsarkar has represented India in 116 Test matches.

He is well known for achieving the feat of being the first player to score three tons at Lord’s against England. The right-handed batsman scored 6868 runs in Tests and above 3500 runs in ODIs. His international career spanned over 16 years.

Vengsarkar doesn’t have a contract with the BCCI: Source

One of the senior officials, who attended the COA meeting told The Times Of India that Vengsarkar is a part-time committee member and there is no question of removing him according to the policy. “Dilip Vengsarkar does not have a contract with the BCCI. So where does the question of removing him arise? He is a part-time committee member. Like every sub-committee’s tenure is till AGM, same with Vengsarkar.” the source said.

Source opens up on a new possible position in the committee

The source also added that the BCCI will hire a Project Director, as per the requirement. “There are extensive plans with regards to NCA. We will have a Project Director, who will execute the BCCI blueprint with regards to NCA revamp. As and when something concrete happens, we would be able to divulge more information. We are also in the process of finalising the revised pay structure for domestic players,” the official said.

“The dope tests are conducted by National Dope Test Laboratory and union sports secretary is the ex-officio or vice-chairman of the institution. So this is a wrong concept that we are flouting any rules,” the official added.
