Disheartening to see David Warner's love affair with the SRH unraveling like this: Kevin Pietersen
Things seem to have fallen apart between Warner and SRH management.
David Warner might well have played his last game for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and the cricket world is disheartened. The southpaw has been a vital cog of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise ever since joining them in 2014. He played one sensational knock after another and guided them to numerous wins. Under Warner’s leadership, in fact, SRH advanced to their maiden title in 2016.
However, these are things of the past as Warner isn’t likely to play for SRH anymore. Following some mediocre performances in the first installment of IPL 2021, the Australian opener was sacked as SRH captain and was even dropped from the playing XI. Although he played a couple of matches in the UAE leg, scores of 0 and 2 meant Warner was axed again.
With Warner being a cornerstone of the SRH side over the years, his treatment has left many disheartened including Kevin Pietersen. Expressing his disappointment, the former England captain said Warner has been at the heart and soul of SRH.
David Warner has been at the heart and soul of SRH: Kevin Pietersen
“David Warner just is Sunrisers Hyderabad, so it’s disheartening to see his love affair with the franchise unraveling like this. He has scored so many runs for them over the years, captained them to the title, and has been at the heart and soul of everything that they do,” Pietersen said in his blog for Betway.
“He looks totally disillusioned now, and there are clearly things happening behind the scenes that we don’t know about,” he added. It seems like things have fallen apart between Warner and SRH management. At least, his social media activity on Friday (September 30) indicated the same. “It’s not about who is real to your face, It`s about who stays real behind your back,” the 34-year-old posted on his Instagram story.

With SRH getting knocked out of the playoff race, head coach Trevor Bayliss stated youngsters will get chances in the remaining games. Hence, Warner’s return to the field is highly unlikely. Moreover, the mega auctions are set to take place next year and SRH aren’t likely to retain the Australian swashbuckler. Hence, the southpaw can be seen in different colours next season.
