‘Don’t leave us in chaos’ – Rashid Khan urges ‘world leaders’ to ‘stop destroying Afghanistan’
Rashid is currently in England, playing for Trent Rockets in The Hundred.
Afghanistan cricketer Rashid Khan has requested the who’s who of the political fraternity to treat his nation with utmost care in tough times. The leg-spinner asked them to not leave them in chaos at a time when a number of his countrymen are losing their lives due to an ever-lasting political turmoil in the country.
Earlier this year, in a spine-chilling incident in Kabul, around 50 pupils, between 11 and 15 years of age, lost their lives in a bombing at a girls’ school. Three explosions outside the schools took place when the students were on their way back home. The incident and many others have left Rashid concerned.
He took to Twitter and wrote, “Dear World Leaders! My country is in chaos, thousands of innocent people, including children & women, get martyred every day, houses & properties being destructed. Thousand families displaced. Don’t leave us in chaos. Stop killing Afghans & destroying Afghanistan. We want peace.”

At the present point in time, Rashid is busy plying his trade in the inaugural edition of the Hundred. In the tournament, he’s playing for the Trent Rockets, who are placed second in the points table. The team has won four out of their first six games and are in contention to qualify for the next round.
Rashid is currently the leading wicket-taker for them, having scalped nine wickets at an economy of 1.34. He has also played cameos with the bat, playing at a strike rate of 182.60. He is one of the three spinners in their team, along with Matthew Carter and the veteran Samit Patel.
After the Hundred, Rashid is likely to travel to the UAE for the second leg of the 2021 Indian Premier League where he represents the Sunrisers Hyderabad. His team has strained, but Rashid hasn’t flattered to deceive by any stretch of the imagination.
Later this year, he is also set to play for Afghanistan in the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup. The tournament was earlier set to take place in India but had to be shifted to the UAE due to COVID-19 hassles.
