ECB hands Jason Roy two-match ban, 2500 pounds fine for 'prejudicial' behavior
The suspension shall be suspended for 12 months depending on Roy’s behaviour.
As per the latest developments, Jason Roy has been reprimanded by the Cricket Disciplinary Commission of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The opener has been found guilty of prejudicial conduct. Owing to the same, the commission charged Roy with sanctions on Tuesday (March 22), which include a two-match ban and a fine of 2500 pounds, which must be paid by March 31.
Notably, the suspension shall be suspended for 12 months depending on Roy’s behaviour. As per a press release issued by the ECB, Roy conducted himself in a manner which may be prejudicial. The 31-year-old also admitted the offence. Although the details of breach on Roy’s part are still to be known, ECB has given its verdict on the matter.
Jason Roy conducted himself in a manner which may be prejudicial: ECB
“A Disciplinary Panel of the Cricket Discipline Commission has announced its sanction on Jason Roy after he admitted a charge of conducting himself in a manner which may be prejudicial to the interests of cricket or which may bring the game of cricket, the ECB and himself into disrepute, in breach of ECB Directive 3.3,” stated ECB.
“Following a full disciplinary hearing at which all available evidences was heard, the Disciplinary Panel ruled that Mr Roy should: (i) be suspended from the next two England matches for which he is eligible for selection, but that such suspension be suspended for 12 months dependent on good behaviour; and (ii) pay a fine of £2,500 by March 31 2022,” read the release further.
It must be noted that Roy has pulled out of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 citing bio-bubble fatigue. The decision came as a shocker for many as Roy was in great touch during this year’s Pakistan Super League (PSL), which concluded in February. Moreover, the star opener subsequently announced that he’ll be taking a brief sabbatical from the game in order to spend time with his young family.
