The IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) looks like a balanced blend of Indian and overseas players for their campaign in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League. The two-time champion will be looking forward to clinching their third T20 Championship title. Their last outing in the final of the tournament came during the 2014 edition where they had defeated Kings XI Punjab.

Recently, former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar opined on Dinesh Karthik, the captain of the Knight Riders saying that the management can handover the responsibility of leadership to new-recruit, England’s limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan in case the team does not perform upto the expectations in the first half of their campaign in the 2020 edition.

Speaking to Sports Tak, the 71-year-old said– “Kolkata Knight Riders is such a team that has a very attractive and aggressive batting order. But the addition of Eoin Morgan to the middle-order has added more stability and experience to it. Thus, he can prove to be very dangerous.”

“Even this can happen that if in the first four-five games if KKR do not start well, then Eoin Morgan can replace Dinesh Karthik as the captain of the side because we always have had that complex,” he added.

There will be some kind of pressure on Pat Cummins: Sunil Gavaskar

Further in the interaction, Gavaskar reckoned that Australian pacer Pat Cummins can succumb to the pressure of his staggering price tag and it can affect his performance in the tournament. Notably, Cummins was sold at a whopping INR 15.5 crores to the Knight Riders ahead of the league and he was the most expensive buys of the IPL 2020 Auction.

“KKR have the biggest T20 player in Andre Russell, but they also have the costliest player in Pat Cummins. In the recently concluded limited-overs series between Australia and England, his performance was not impressive. So there will be some kind of pressure on him,” the former Indian skipper opined.

“Whenever you are a costly player, the weight of the price tag is always there. Will he play all the matches? that is also something that we will need to look at,” he added
