Failure to land IPL contract will make Ishan Porel hungry for success, says childhood coach
Porel's failure to land an IPL contract will fuel his ambitions which can turn out to be a blessing in disguise
Bengal pacer Ishan Porel recently hit the headlines after wrecking havoc with his match-winning spell against Pakistan in the Under-19 World Cup semi-final match. Despite looking in a blistering form, he was left disappointed after failing to attract the interest of any franchise in the IPL auction. Ishan’s childhood coach Bibhas Das also conceded that the right arm medium pacer from Chandannagar was upset for not being picked by any team but that has now made him more eager to prove himself on the ground.
The 19-year-old started his career in National Sporting Club at Chandannagar under the tutelage of Prabir Mondal. Then he went to Kolkata and joined Bibhas’ Academy at Deshbandhu Park. The first thing that Bibhas had to work on was Ishan’s fitness. The lower part of his body was not that strong as required for a pacer. The man behind Porel’s success, Bibhas even prepared a special training and diet chart for the pacer.
Childhood coach opens up about Ishan
Speaking of the youngster’s missed opportunity, Das said to Sportswallah.com, “I have been regularly in touch with him over the phone during the ongoing World Cup in New Zealand. Bittu (Ishan’s nickname) was very hopeful to get to play in the IPL. But after the auction got over and he remained unsold, Bittu was very upset.”
He further added, “I told Bittu that cricket is not all about IPL. I personally am not a big admirer of T20 cricket. I advised him to prove himself on the field. Bittu also told me that he was feeling more hungry for success as he had one or two points to prove.”
Ishan’s failure to bag an IPL contract can be a blessing in disguise
Ishan will once again play a clinical role in the U-19 World Cup final as the Men in Blue take on Australia. With a lot at stake, the young brimming talent will aim to deliver his best possible performance to etch history. Also, his failure to land an IPL contract will fuel his ambitions which can turn out to be a blessing in disguise for the Indian colts in their summit clash.
