Fans click selfie with Virat Kohli on ground during Rajkot Test against Windies
India had a satisfying first day in the field after Kohli won the toss and elected to bat.
There was no shortage of excitement on the first day of the Rajkot Test even though India were playing against a team ranked far low in the international list. Debutant Prithvi Shaw slammed his maiden Test hundred to become the 15th Indian overall and the youngest for the country to do so. However, apart from the cricketing reason, the first day in which India dominated also saw another incident unfolding.
It happened when captain Virat Kohli was batting in the middle. Two boys overcame the fencing to reach the middle of the ground and take a selfie with the batsman near the wicket. The crowd whistled as the captain obliged them. Meanwhile, the umpires and the opponent players waited till the security personnel reached the middle to escort the intruders out.
However, from the gestures of the boys, it was clearly understood that they were little worried over their actions as one was seen raising his hands to acknowledge the crowd cheering them.
Gambhir and Sehwag had similar experiences recently
Last month, a fan breached the barriers to enter the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground to touch the feet of left-hand batsman Gautam Gambhir while he was batting for Delhi against Saurashtra in a Vijay Hazare Trophy game. Also, Gambhir’s one-time colleague in the Indian team Virender Sehwag had a similar experience in Bengaluru while fielding during a celebrity cricket tournament.
The video was shared on Instagram by a fan account called Virat Kohli Planet:
India had a satisfying first day in the field after Kohli won the toss and elected to bat. Though opener KL Rahul was dismissed in the very first over, Shaw (134) and Cheteshwar Pujara (86) added 206 runs for the second wicket. Shaw didn’t last too long after Pujara got out and India lost their vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane (41) as the fourth wicket. The hosts ended the day at 364 for 4 in 89 overs. For the Windies, four bowlers took a wicket apiece with speedster Shannon Gabriel being the most economical with 3.66. Kohli remained not out on 72 at stumps along with wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant (17) and will look to complete his 24th Test ton on Friday.
