Fans respond after ICC asks them to pick one between Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman
The fans were quick to respond to the query.
Indian cricket stalwarts Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman shared the stage on Friday when the former was being felicitated by the Cricket Association of Bengal in Kolkata for becoming the BCCI president. The former India skipper took over as the 39th BCCI President in Mumbai earlier this week. In the process, he became the first Indian captain in 65 years to become the board president.
Both Ganguly and Laxman are two of the greatest players to have represented India. Both of them were integral part of the team that revived Indian cricket in the early 2000s after the match-fixing scandal. Laxman, who played the famous knock of 281 in the iconic Eden Gardens Test against Australia, retired from the game after representing India in 134 Tests and 86 ODIs. He scored 8781 runs in the longest format of the game at an average of 45.97.
Laxman would always be remembered for the way he dominated the formidable Australians. While Australia were dominating the game, Laxman always gave them a run for their money. He scored 2434 runs against Kangaroos in Tests at an average of 49.67, scoring six centuries and 12 half-centuries. Laxman had retired from the game in 2012.
On the other hand, Ganguly retired in 2008. The ex-captain was one of the best batsmen in the world during his peak time. He scored a staggering 22 centuries in ODIs and 16 centuries in Tests along with 107 fifties. The legendary batsman scored more than 18,000 runs in international cricket. He, however, is remembered more for his captaincy. It was Ganguly who bailed Indian cricket out of trouble through his leadership after the fixing scandal.
ICC asks fans to pick one
With Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman sharing the stage, the ICC used the opportunity to interact with the fans. Taking to Twitter, the governing body of the game asked the followers to pick one between the two legendary batsmen. The ICC posted the combined stats of both the players as they wrote, “29,606 runs and 61 centuries for India between this pair. If you could only pick one, who would you choose?”
The fans were quick to respond to the query and as expected, they found it a tough to pick one between the two greats. They, however, managed to justified their picks.
