Fans want Virat Kohli to donate for the Assam flood victims
The supporters aren’t quite satisfied with Virat only dropping a tweet for the same.
Assam, one of the Seven Sisters of North-Eastern India, isn’t in the greatest of states by any stretch of the imagination. The deluge floods have been unfolding mayhem for quite a few days now and the death toll is constantly increasing. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has been providing with all the numbers surrounding the developments in the northeastern state.
The situation doesn’t seem to improve. More than 1.50 lakhs people have been left homeless and have taken relief in 392 distribution centres and 427 relief camps, which have been set up by the district administrators. The flood also took the life of a rhino in the Kaziranga National Park. Even the Brahmaputra and its tributaries are flowing above the danger mark in various places in the state.
Assam in an abject state
Breaching of embankments, damage to roads, culverts and bridges have been reported across the state. The Northeast Frontier Railway has slowed down trains in Abhayapuri-Jogighopa section for safety as the villagers have flocked to the railway embankment for shelter. In those tough times, a number of celebrities have come forward and made some donations for the flood victims.
Akshay Kumar, the veteran actor, donated INR 1 crore each to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and the Kaziranga National Park. Star sprinter Hima Das, who’s a native of Assam, has donated half of her salary for relief efforts. Das recently made the country proud, winning her fourth Gold medal in 15 days, the latest one coming in the 200m race in the Tabor Athletics Meet in the Czech Republic.
In the meantime, Virat Kohli, the Indian captain, dropped him a tweet for the victims of the natural calamity. The 30-year-old, who recently led the national team in the 2019 World Cup, took to Twitter and wrote, “Heartbroken to hear the devastation caused by the floods in Assam. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected out there. #PrayForAssam,”
