All the eight Indian Premier League (IPL) teams have played at least a match each one of the four teams that got off to a winning start is Kings XI Punjab. The team led by Ravichandran Ashwin has a new look they’ve picked a bunch of Indian talent and like always heavily rely on their domestic names to come good. In the auction, they also picked two veterans of the format Yuvraj Singh and Chris Gayle.

While Yuvi was a part of the starting XI in the first match against Delhi Daredevils that KXIP won quite comfortably chasing the target they will expect the senior pro to come good soon enough. Gayle, on the other hand, didn’t find a place in the initial encounter and will come in only as a replacement. He is waiting in the ranks eagerly for his chance.

When skipper Ashwin was asked about Gayle’s non-selection in the XI he said, “It was a management decision to go with the combination we felt was right. Once we got the combination right, we wanted to trust it and go ahead with it.”

It was KL Rahul who stole the show against DD. He scored the fastest half century in the IPL getting to his fifty in just 14 balls. He thrashed the Delhi bowlers and was at his stroke-making best.

Looking for an opportunity

During that game, Brett Lee had an interaction with Gayle and asked what was going through his mind being out of the team.

“I had a good net session in last couple of days, fitting in perfectly with the guys,” the Jamaican said. “I am looking forward for an opportunity to go in the middle. I am going to wait patiently and see how it comes along.”

Though he is 38, Gayle maintains a really fit body and boasts of his six-pack abs. At the same time he still has that hunger to perform and entertain his fans.

“I am fit and still hungry for the game. The fans always want to see entertainment as much as possible, so I am trying to stay around for as long as possible,” said Gayle.

“Whenever I go to bat, everyone expects me to score a hundred or hit lot of sixes. Given an opportunity, I’ll do my thing again,” he further stated.
