At present, no cricketer gets better reception at all venues like Virat Kohli. However, the star batsman had instances where he didn’t go well with the crowd; the too in India. While leading the RCB team in 2013, Kohli was at the end of negative reception at the Wankhede Stadium while facing the home team Mumbai Indians. The chants of “cheater Kohli” popped up after his direct hit from covers ran out Ambati Rayudu, whose bat was in air having collided with the bowler Vinay Kumar.

Kohli was a bit amused with the reception during the game. “I don’t know what is wrong with people in this venue. It feels a bit weird because at the end of the day you play for India and you don’t come here to be hated,” he said after the game. Later in 2014, Wankhede resounded with “Anushka” chants as they referred Kohli by the Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma when the duo were in a relationship that turned into a marriage in late 2017. The game during the 2014 season witnessed an altercation between Mitchell Starc and Kieron Pollard.
