5 Occasions where the Indian players were booed in India
Here we look at the top five instances when Indian cricketers were booed by the Indian crowds.
3. Rahul Dravid and Team at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata:
The whole nation couldn’t believe when Sourav Ganguly was ousted from the team due to his poor form with the bat in 2005. The outrage was even more in his state where the people couldn’t digest the treatment to their beloved son. In such stage, India faced South Africa in the 3rd game of a 4-match ODI series which was levelled at 1-1. The association too seemed like exhibiting their distress as a green track was laid for the game that perfectly suits the South Africans. As a result, India were bundled out for only 188 from 45.5 overs.
India lost the game by a record 10-wicket margin in front of a near 80000 crowd that was backing the Saffers and not the hosts. During the first innings, skipper Rahul Dravid walked out to bat in front of a crowd that was booing him. It was the same crowd that cheered him during his twin Test tons against Pakistan earlier that year and his contribution during the 2001 famous Australia Test. Post the game, Dravid jokingly said that he was lucky not to be fielding at the boundary lines where the Indian players received curse words as well.
