The Rajasthan Royals had spent big at the 2018 IPL Auction. Players like Jaydev Unadkat, Ben Stokes and K Gowtham got the big bucks and were expected to deliver for Rajasthan Royals. The team suffered a huge setback when captain Steve Smith was barred from playing in the IPL. Ajinkya Rahane was chosen as the new captain as he was the most experienced player in the squad and had led the side for few matches on previous occasions.

The Rajasthan Royals haven’t started the season in the way they would have liked. They have three wins from three games and are currently placed fifth on the points table. The big players haven’t got going for the side and the form of the captain himself is in question. The newly introduced transfer window allows teams to fill in the gaps that need to work on and also gives an opportunity to the benched players to get more game time.

The confidence of the players is affected

“The management will decide. I’ve always felt that you should focus on how to bring out the best in whoever is on your team. This is a new strategy being used in this season of the IPL but we haven’t discussed anything about it yet. I’ve always believed that as a player, and now as a captain, it’s important that you know how to use the resources at your disposal and how to boost the confidence of the players that you have.” Rahane was quoted as saying by timesofindia.com.

Rahane believes that the confidence of players may take a hit when they are swapped. The transferred players may feel that they are surplus to the requirements of the team and may not be able to focus on their game. Rahane does not want any player to lose his confidence, even if their performance is not consistent. The confidence level should always be maintained.

With the inclusion of Jofra Archer in the playing XI, the bowling of the Royals looks stronger. The senior batsmen need to step up and score runs for the franchise to have a chance of making into the playoffs.
