Out of form Virat Kohli takes a word of advice from Ravi Shastri
Former team India director Ravi Shastri is back to the commentary panel now ever since Anil Kumble took over the reign ahead of the India-West Indies series last year. But after a long time, he was seen spending some quality time with Indian captain Virat Kohli as India geared up for the 4th day’s action against the Aussies in Ranchi. Shastri was succeeded by legendary spinner Anil Kumble who was appointed by the Cricket Advisory Committee of the BCCI which comprise of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman.
Shastri was not impressed with Sourav Ganguly not being present in the meeting when the decision was taken. He lashed out at “Prince of Calcutta” by asking him to be present in an important meeting from future. Ganguly also gave him a stern reply saying Shastri is living in a fool’s world if he feels it is due to him that he is not the coach of India.
The bonding and chemistry between Shastri and Kohli are well known so it was a pleasing sight to see the duo together in public after a long time. It was the first time they were seen together in public following Anil Kumble’s appointment in June last year. It was the combo of Shastri and Kohli that helped India reclaim their numero uno status in Tests after MS Dhoni stepped down after the Test series in Australia in 2014-15.
Kohli hasn’t been in the best of forms in the ongoing Test series against Australia which might have tempted him to have a word or two with Shastri. The former director have a very good rapport with the captain and his words might help Kohli regain his focus back. BCCI posted a picture of the duo interaction with a caption “Some pre-start talk between @RaviShastriOfc and @imVkohli #INDvAUS.
While India has moved on from the Shastri era as the current captain-coach duo of Kohli and Kumble is doing wonders for the team at the moment, Shastri has always maintained his stance that under Kohli this team will reach unprecedented heights.
